Celebrity Birthday of the Day – January 9

Actor Lee Van Cleef specialized in genre movies, especially Westerns, action movies and even sci-fi pictures. He began his career on the stage and made the transition to film with the classic Western High Noon, starting his career as one of cinema’s most famous cowboys very early on. Other Western properties featuring Van Cleef include the TV shows Black Saddle, The Lone Ranger, The Real McCoys, Rawhide, and numerous others, and films the most famous of which include The Man who Shot Libery Valance, How the West Was Won, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Outside of Westerns, Van Cleef appeared on an episode of The Twilight Zone, in the films The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and It Conquered the World, and in one of my favourite movies: Escape From New York! Lee Van Cleef died of a heart attack on December 16, 1989. He was 64.
