I feel like writer/director/producer Walter Hill is sort of a legend in his own time, though a largely underrated one. Hill began his career as a second assistant director on The Thomas Crown Affair in 1968, and also worked on Bullitt in the same year. In 1969 he was second assistant director on Woody Allen’s Take the Money and Run. It was in the 1970s that Hill began writing and directing films, with some of his notable early works including The Warriors, 48 Hrd. Brewster’s Millions and Red Heat. He was a producer for every single Alien movie (including Prometheus and the Alien Versus Predator films), and also produced such TV shows as Tales from the Crypt, Perversions of Science, and Deadwood. He turns 71 today.
