Welcome to the Basement: Saturday Night Fever

Welcome to the Basement is back, and on this episode Craig is taking over hosting duties as he and Matt look at the disco classic that made John Travolta a star: Saturday Night Fever. Now, I’d never call Saturday Night Fever one of my favourite films, but alongside that other 1970s John Travolta flick Grease, it does make for a pretty hilarious watch. Travolta plays a similarly hairdo-obsessed, pigheaded guy who loves to dance in each movie, and his image back then was so drastically different from his current public image that you can’t help but be amused. Honestly, though, when I watch Saturday Night Fever, all I can think of is this scene from Airplane!
