Musician and comedian Bill Bailey’s past is shrouded in mystery due to the fact that he often mythologises it in his standup routines. He began his career as a touring standup comedian in the early 1980s, and by the end of that decade he had made the transition to television, making his debut on the children’s TV show Motormouth. Bailey became a frequent bit player on British comedy shows, and eventually got his own show called Is It Bill Bailey? In 1999, Bailey played comic store owner Bilbo Bagshot on the Edgar Wright series Spaced, and has also appeared on shows such as Wild West, Doctor Who, and Hustle, and in films including The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, and Burke and Hare. Bill Bailey turns 49 today.
