Don’t take any chances

Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, Jack’s soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

I still haven’t decided my level of anticipation for Oblivion from Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, but I’m definitely interested in it. The look of the film is pretty neat, and I like how Kosinski has stated in interviews that he wanted to bring the sci-fi genre out of the darkness and into the sunlight. It’s a good point – basically since Alien, science fiction has been full of darkness and shadows (I wonder if Kosinski got sick of it working on Tron), and it will be neat to see dappled sunbeams streaking along the side of a spaceship for a change. Tom Cruise may not be my favourite actor, but he was solid in Minority Report, so he has some science fiction credit, and Morgan Freeman is awesome no matter what. Oblivion could be great…but I just don’t know. What do you think?

Oblivion comes out April 19, 2013.
