Cypher Raige is a character name in this movie. Seriously.

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige and his legendary father Cypher stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.

Here’s another trailer for M. Night Shyamalan-directed sci-fi flick After Earth starring Will and Jaden Smith. It, uh…okay, look, guys, I don’t have any pithy commentary on this. I’m posting it because I’m fascinated by M. Night Shyamalan’s career, which has been nose-diving every since the early 2000s, and keeping an eye on his movies is a bit like staring at a slow-motion train wreck. Normally I’d be all over some action-packed, post-apocalyptic science fiction fun, but Shyamalan’s attachment to this project just removes all desire I might have to see it – even though they’re clearly trying to keep his name as far away from the marketing campaign as possible. Is anyone out there really excited to see this movie? The comments on Youtube indicate that people are willing to give Shyamalan another shot. Are you?

After Earth comes out June 7, 2013.
