There’s only so long you can hide from the truth

Here’s a new trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones that, in my opinion, looks quite a bit better than the first trailer for the film. It’s still pretty generic and doesn’t seem to break any new ground, but there’s some promise here. The setup is essentially Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Lily Collins in the lead role, and I’m fine with that, even though the dialogue doesn’t seem like it will touch the genius of Joss Whedon, but I dunno. Even if this trailer uses the badass “Kaneda Dies” music by John Murphy (first heard in Sunshine then recycled in Kick-Ass), I’m not totally sold on it. I have some hope that The Mortal Instruments will deliver a decent movie franchise based on a young adult novel, since The Hunger Games was such a disappointment, but I’m still waiting for the moment where I go “Aha! Okay, this is going to rock.” Still waiting, guys. Still waiting.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones comes out August 23, 2013.
