The History of Future Folk is an indie about two aliens from a planet called Hondo who came to our planet and wipe out civilization, but our music changed their mind. Now with their Devo-inspired look and catchy folk tunes, they’re an upstart musical duo just trying to get by on Earth. But the rest of Hondo is still hellbent on taking over Earth, and it’s up to this strange team to stop them.
Indie genre films are always lots of fun to watch, simply because they’re not working with the big budgets that Hollywood provides but also because they’re not working with any of the Hollywood studio constraints either. The result is usually something like The History of Future Folk – a wacky science fiction film whose premise is original and totally bizarre, and whose production design and special effects are cheap in the most charming way. Between this and the Coen Bros. Inside Llewyn Davis, apparently folk music is in this year? Colour me interested!
The History of Future Folk comes out in limited release May 31, 2013.
