Powers Boothe is an American actor who specializes in playing figures of authority – especially villainous ones. After beginning his career as a stage actor, Boothe came to national attenion playing Jim Jones in the made-for-TV movie Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, a role which won him an Emmy. Soon after, Boothe appeared in a prominent role in the cult hit Red Dawn, and since then he has appeared in such films as Tombstone, Nixon, Frailty, and Sin City, and on TV series including Deadwood, 24, and Nashville. I think my favourite Powers Boothe role has got to be Cy Tolliver from Deadwood. He turns 65 today.
