I must say, Australia sure produces a multitude of great actors, including today’s celebrity birthday boy Joel Edgerton. Edgerton began his acting career in stage productions with the Sydney Theatre Company, and made his film debut in the 1996 movie Loaded. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, the bulk of Edgerton’s roles were in Australian-made films, and one of his earliest Hollywood roles was as the young Owen Lars in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, a role which he reprised in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Other notable early roles for Edgerton came in films such as Ned Kelly, King Arthur, and Kinky Boots, and he voiced the title character in the award-winning short film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello. Since then, he has appeared in the movies Smokin’ Aces, Spider, Warrior, The Thing, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Great Gatsby (which I think he was terrific in). Joel Edgerton turns 39 today.
