Florence Stanley began acting in the 1940s, though I’ve always known her for her sarcastic middle-aged lady roles. She began her career as a stage actor and moved into television acting during the 1950s, with one of her earliest reoccurring TV roles being on the TV series Dark Shadows. She also played roles on Barney Miller, Mr. Belvedere, and My Two Dads, but the first role I remember hearing her distinctive voice in was as Grandma Ethyl on the series Dinosaurs. Other notable TV credits on Florence Stanley’s resume include Family Guy, NYPD Blue, Dharma & Greg, and The Simple Life. She also did a fair amount of film work in movies such as Outrageous Fortune, Bulworth, A Goofy Movie, The Odd Couple II, Trapped in Paradise, and Down with Love. Florence Stanley passed away from a stroke on October 3, 2003, at the age of 79.
