Tony Jaa Returns

I absolutely hate Springboard as a streaming video platform, so the fact that I’m using it should tell you just how excited I am about this preview. After a lengthy absence from the movies, Tony Jaa, martial artist extraordinaire, has finally returned for Tom Yum Goong 2. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: I really wish Jaa would make the transition to Hollywood filmmaking…or even more mainstream Asian filmmaking, because his go-to director Prachya Pinkaew isn’t particularly inspired when it comes to the content of his movies. The team of Jaa and Pinkaew sure delivers some amazing action, though, and this trailer is full of it. I just hope they stick to the “No wires, no CGI” rule that made Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong so amazing to behold. Also, it looks like actor Petchtai Wongkamlao is returning as well. InĀ my copy of Ong Bak, his character was called Dirty Balls, and in Ong Bak 2 (which was a prequel – don’t ask), the ancestor of Dirty Balls was referred to as Itchy Balls. I wonder what kind of balls he’ll have in this movie.

Tom Yum Goong is being released in Thailand in October 2013 – no word yet as to when it will come to North America.
