The Act of Killing

A documentary that challenges former Indonesian death squad leaders to reenact their real-life mass-killings in whichever cinematic genres they wish, including classic Hollywood crime scenarios and lavish musical numbers.

Say whaaaaat? The Act of Killing may be the weirdest idea for a documentary ever, so it comes as no surprise that Werner Herzog is credited as executive producer. It’s so strange, in fact, that I can’t tell whether or not I’m looking forward to it. This has the potential to be a chilling, disturbing movie, and while I’m sure it’s going to be amazingly made, I can’t say with certainty whether I have the stomach for it. Oh, who am I kidding? I’m going to see this. But it’s already making me uneasy.

The Act of Killing has been touring the festival circuit. No word yet as to when it will get a wide release.
