The Devil is in the Double

Simon is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simons exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simons horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

I love it when I find myself perplexed by a movie trailer, and that’s definitely the case with this preview for The Double. The Double is directed by Richard Ayoade, whose debut film Submarine is supposed to be awesome, but I haven’t seen it yet, and the film is based on the story of the same name by Fyodir Dostoyevsky. Not often that you hear that name in the world of cinema. Anyway, this trailer is really well made, but watching it I definitely got the impression that this film will be a thriller…but it’s a comedy, apparently? Color me perplexed! And intrigued…very intrigued.
