Before They Were Stars: Al Pacino Wins a Tony Award in 1969

Here’s a neat piece of rare footage. In 1969, Al Pacino had yet to start his film career, so he was pretty much a complete unknown when was cast in Broadway play called Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?. The play closed after only 39 performances, but Pacino garnered a lot of acclaim for his performance and won a Tony Award for “Best Supporting Actor”. It’s also neat to hear that one of the other nominees in this category was Richard Castellano, who would later play the role of Clemenza when he co-starred alongside Pacino in The Godfather.
