Before They Were Stars: Jeremy Renner in “The Outsideman”

The Outsideman is a short film starring a then-unknown Jeremy Renner as a wannabe con artist named Vegas Jackman and you can bet that the film’s website pumps the hell out of this fact. The Outsideman was originally a feature-length script which made it into the quarter-finals of a prominent screenwriting contest in 2001, but it was eventually pared down to be made into a short film and it wound up being screened at the Cannes Film Festival. According to the website, they still hope to make a feature-length version of this story with Jeremy Renner someday and possibly turn it into a trilogy. It certainly couldn’t have been a worse career move than Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.
