I need more power.

Dr. Will Caster is the foremost researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence, working to create a sentient machine that combines the collective intelligence of everything ever known with the full range of human emotions. When anti-technology extremists threaten his life, they inadvertently trigger a quick move towards his transcendence, and Will’s thirst for knowledge evolves into a seemingly omnipresent quest for power, to what end is unknown.

Ever since it was announced, I’ve been pretty curious about cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut Transcendence. Pfister is sort of Christopher Nolan’s protege, and he’s a hell of a cinematographer, so needless to say there’s been a lot of intrigue surrounding the project. The first trailer for Transcendence landed this week, and, well, you can ratchet my anticipation up another few notches, because this looks awesome. This is Black Mirror level techno-sci-fi, and with a cast that includes the likes of Johnny Depp, Cillian Murphy and Paul Bettany, you can bet that it’s going to be good. I’d even rank this higher on my list of anticipated movies of 2014 than Nolan’s next movie Interstellar. Transcendence has the better trailer, anyway.

Transcendence comes out April 18, 2014.
