Before They Were Stars: Jonah Hill Performs Awkward Stand-Up About Hate Crimes

As you probably know, shortly after the Academy Award nominations are announced, it’s a tradition here at The Back Row for me to do “Before They Were Stars” features on as many of the nominees as possible. Years ago, I never would have pegged Jonah Hill as an Oscar nominee, but here he is getting his second nomination for his performance in The Wolf of Wall Street. I’ve previously posted footage of Jonah from when he performed with the Antagonist Movement, a New York-based cultural movement which allows artists to perform alternative, anti-commercial shows. Here’s footage of one of his full stand-up comedy sets, where he is introduced under his real name, Jonah Feldstein, and does a spiel about hate crimes and picking on a gay college roommate named Adolf. The whole routine is, well… awkward, to say the least.
