The recent death of Harold Ramis has compelled me to find a lot of “Before They Were Stars” clips this week featuring comedic performers who started out with the Second City comedy troupe. This Second City clip is from 1990 and is particularly notable because it features Chris Farley just before he was hired by Saturday Night Live. This show marks the first time Farley tested out what is arguably his most popular character from SNL: Matt Foley, the motivational speaker who lives in a van down by the river! If that wasn’t enough, you can also see a pre-SNL Tim Meadows and an unknown Bob Odenkirk performing in this sketch.
