Before They Were Stars: Dave Batista Wrestles as Leviathan

One of the most hilarious bits of unintentional comedy in 2014 thus far has been the failed return of Dave Batista to World Wresting Entertainment. Since leaving the company four years ago, Batista has built himself a movie career with prominent roles in The Man with the Iron Fists and Riddick, and he’s slated to play Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy this summer. Because of Batista’s success in Hollywood, WWE felt compelled to bring him back as a babyface to win the Royal Rumble and wrestle in the main event of Wrestlemania 30. However, the whole idea turned into a hilarious trainwreck, as fans totally rejected Batista in a huge way and booed the shit out of him. As a result, WWE was forced to insert the beloved Daniel Bryan into the Wrestlemania main event in order to salvage the whole situation. Because of Batista’s colossal failure, I’ll probably be watching Guardians of the Galaxy in a much different light when it comes out. Anyway, here’s some early footage of Dave Batista from 2000 when he wrestled in WWE’s developmental system, Ohio Valley Wrestling, as a vampire named Leviathan.
