This is it.

Aidan Bloom is a thirtysomething family man wrestling with his disapproving father, an elusive God, and adult responsibility. Pursuing acting has landed him and his wife in a tough spot, so when his grumpy father can no longer pay for the kids to attend Jewish Yeshiva, Aidan opts for homeschooling, much to the chagrin of his hyperdisciplined, religious daughter and the delight of his less-than-studious son.

I quite enjoyed Garden State when it came out, even if its beauty has faded into hipster cliche since its release, and so I’ve been quite curious about Zach Braff’s follow-up directorial effort Wish I Was Here. From Braff’s incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign to the strange parallel stories of a stranded astronaut and a struggling father, it seems like this movie could either be a giant mess or something unique and interesting. I also love the two kids in this – Joey King, who I thought was great in The Conjuring, and Pierce Gagnon, who was awesome in Looper. But like I said, this could just be a huge messy bundle of twee and cosplay. I dunno. But I really like this trailer. There, I said it.

Wish I Was Here comes out August 1, 2014.
