Well, I never thought I’d be posting footage of a Kenyan soap opera here at The Back Row, but here you go. Before she won an Academy Award this past year for 12 Years a Slave, the majority of Lupita Nyong’o’s acting experience consisted of appearing as a regular character on Shuga, a popular soap opera produced in Kenya by MTV Networks Africa. Consider this a particularly unique example of a future Oscar winner getting their feet wet in soap operas.
