Before They Were Stars: Lena Headey in “Waterland”

Waterland is a 1992 film directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal, the father of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal. It’s the story of a high school teacher played by Jeremy Irons who develops a connection with his students as he recounts stories from his life when he was a teenager, a bond which becomes especially strong with one student played by Ethan Hawke. The film also features Lena Headey in her first role, long before she became famous for playing the smirking Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones. Waterland also contains the first on-screen appearance of the director’s daughter Maggie, but unfortunately I couldn’t find any clips of her part. So to make up for that, here’s some more footage of Headey, which includes a rather salacious sex scene on a train and a popup add for a website that is apparently dedicated to celebrity bums.
