I would never claim that the film Monsters was a masterpiece, but it was a great example of what can be achieved by independent filmmakers these days. Monsters was shot on a micro-budget with only equipment purchased at Future Shop, and it made the wise choice of keeping the big special effects to a minimum, focusing instead on its characters and their journey. Monsters: Dark Continent looks nothing like its predecessor, and I couldn’t be more underwhelmed. I’m getting a real Battle: Los Angeles vibe off of this trailer. Yuck.
