Before They Were Stars: 12-Year Old Jake Gyllenhaal on “Homicide: Life on the Street”

Jake Gyllenhaal just happens to be the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and spent his childhood making the odd acting appearance in his father’s work. At the age of 12, Jake made a guest appearance on the acclaimed second season premiere of Homicide: Life on the Streets, which was directed by his father and gave Jake the opportunity to do some serious emoting as the son of a murdered woman. What makes this episode even more poignant is that Jake’s father is played by the late, great Robin Williams in an Emmy nominated-performance.
