When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (Kevin James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
If you haven’t been listening to our podcast, well, you should probably get on that, but never mind that. We’ve been doing what we call our “batshit crazy movie countdown,” a segment wherein we count down until the release of what we think might be the most insane movie of the year. My nomination was Pixels, because I thought the film looked like utter chaos. Now the trailer is here, and I’m proud to say that I was right…but oh god, this movie looks terrible. There is literally only one thing in it that I appreciate, and that’s Peter Dinklage as a Billy Mitchell-type character with a mullet. But man, Peter, you’re so much better than this. Ugh.
