Before They Were Stars: Salma Hayek on a Mexican Soap Opera

Before she moved to the U.S., Salma Hayek became a fairly prominent name in her native Mexico by playing the title character in a popular soap opera (a.k.a. telenovela) called Teresa. Hayek played a poverty-stricken woman who attempts to better her life by secretly infiltrating the world of the rich. It’s also worth noting that another famous Mexican actor, Gael Garcia Bernal, got his start on Teresa when he was only ten years old and popped up in a few episodes. If you speak Spanish and feel like watching a bunch of third-generation VHS footage of Teresa, then you’ll definitely find your fill on Youtube.
