Names like Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and the Coen Brothers are indicative of many things. First and foremost, they immediately strike any savvy viewers as arbiters of infallible standards. They rarely disappoint and this newest offering Bridge of Spies is another example of their legendary reputations. While I might be a little saddened by Janusz Kaminski’s overuse of ashen color muting, the film looks like a sure-fire hit. A grandiose legal drama with David-vs.-Goliath overtones, the scene of Hanks glimpsing an intruder attempting to scale over a fortified wall before meeting his demise by guard tower, is certainly chilling. Hopefully Spielberg can end the movie without his traditional anticlimactic coda.
