When it comes to film projects that never got off the ground, few are as infamous as the planned Superman reboot that was to be directed by Tim Burton and star Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel. Superman Lives was slated to be made in the 90’s and nearly had a script written by Kevin Smith, but the whole thing fell through before it could come to fruition. Ever since it was cancelled, fans have been trying to get a good look at what Superman Lives might have been. For the longest time, only grainy photos of Cage in costume provided proof that the project had ever existed, but over the years little bits of test footage have appeared online. But this is the best clip yet: Nicolas Cage actually trying on his Superman costume and posing. After seeing it, I’m kinda glad the movie was never made.
That said, I can’t wait to watch the upcoming documentary about the making of the movie, titled The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? Hopefully it will fill in the blanks in the story of the Superman film that never was.
The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? comes out July 9, 2015.
