It has been over a year and a half since the last time we saw Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Holmes and Watson, but the wait will soon be over, for we’re about to get a BBC special set in the good old 19th century. Frankly, I think this should have been the interpretation of the characters that they went with from the beginning, but I can understand wanting to put a modern spin on things as well. However, as excited as I am for this special, I think it’s about time we wrap up Sherlock. With Cumberbatch and Freeman becoming quite famous actors, the wait between new episodes will keep getting longer and longer, and in all honesty, I had forgotten that they were still intent on producing new content. When the break between episodes gets this long, interest starts to wane a bit. Maybe one more season will put the cherry on the sundae of this great little series, and its cast can continue to move on to bigger things without having to return to TV every few years for a handful of new capers. I’m probably alone in this thinking, though.
Sherlock returns with a new special on December 25, 2015.
