To commemorate the Shouts from the Back Row podcast we’ll posting later today about Robert Zemeckis, here is A Field of Honor, a 14-minute student short film he directed in 1973 while attending the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. The short is a screwball comedy about a disturbed former soldier who causes chaos after leaving a sanitarium while the theme music from The Great Escape plays in the background. A Field of Honor earned Zemeckis a Student Academy Award and caught the attention of Steven Spielberg, who became Zemeckis’ mentor as the duo eventually went on to make film history.
