Before They Were Stars: Robert Loggia in “The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca”

Sadly, noted character actor Robert Loggia has just passed away at the age of 85, putting an end to a stellar 60-year career which saw him amass a filmography of over 225 titles. Loggia’s first major break probably came in 1958 when he played renowned real-life wild west lawman Elfego Baca in The Nine Lives of Elfego Baca, a television miniseries produced by Disney. Interestingly enough, Disney produced a bunch of television specials just like this for ABC during the 1950s as part of a unique contract in which they’d receive funding from the network for construction on Disneyland. It’s strange to hear the young Mr. Loggia speaking here with a Spanish accent and without his trademark gravelly voice. He will be missed. R.I.P.
