Thus far, Netflix has made good decisions overall regarding the kinds of movies and series that they produce, so when the streaming service announced that they would be making a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I was a bit puzzled, but I figured Netflix knew what they were doing. Now that I see this trailer, I’m not so sure. First off, this looks like any number of cheap, generic, modern martial arts movies, and forgoes the memorable wire-fu of the original film in favour of bargain bin CGI. But even worse is the soundtrack – a vocoder version of Creedance Clearwater Revival’s Bad Moon Rising? Who thought that was a good idea? This looks terrible! Thinking about it, though…I do get this free with my Netflix subscription, so there’s still a chance I’ll watch it. Maybe Netflix do know what they’re doing after all.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny comes out February 26, 2016.
