I think we’re alone now…

WHAT THE HELL?! In a huge surprise to just about everyone, it appears that 2008’s Cloverfield is getting something of a spiritual sequel. A cousin-sequel? I’m not sure what to call it, but the involvement of J.J. Abrams and the title of 10 Cloverfield Lane definitely connects this movie to the found footage thrill ride about a giant monster terrorizing New York City. But beyond those connections, the tie-in to Cloverfield still has a lot of mystery surrounding it. And since Cloverfield was all about mystery (the first trailer didn’t even feature the film’s title), I’d say this is a good thing. But man, I’m just impressed at how they managed to keep this thing secret. Everybody was blindsided by this one, and that’s damn exciting to me. Also, the film has a great cast. I can’t even remember the last time seeing John Goodman shake his ass around made me interested in a movie. Dan Trachtenberg directing is exciting too, since he did that awesome 2011 Portal short film. Just sign me up right now, guys, I’m ready. No second trailer necessary.

10 Cloverfield Lane comes out March 11, 2016.
