Now here’s a confusing property revival. Pee-wee Herman, the spastic man-child played by Paul Reubens, is back! And he’s…older. Hmm. While this little teaser for Netflix’s new Pee-wee movie does have all the wacky machines and “HA-HA!” laughter that we’re familiar with, the fact that Reubens has visibly aged doesn’t bode well for me. Pee-wee isn’t supposed to be old! Also, who is the target audience for Pee-wee’s Big Holiday? Is it kids? The adults who were kids when Pee-wee was on TV? It seems too juvenile for the latter, but the references (National Geographic?) are probably too old for the former. In the end, I suspect this will be like A Very Murray Christmas – the kind of thing that I put on in the background out of curiosity, but which I will ultimately not revisit after the first viewing.
