When the soap opera, Santa Barbara, first hit the airwaves in 1984, an unknown Robin Wright was one of the original cast members. She did over 500 episodes over the course of four years and earned three daytime Emmy nominations. However, Wright eventually reached the point when she wanted to pursue a film career and earned a golden opportunity when she was offered the title role in The Princess Bride. The catch: as a condition for doing the movie, Wright had to sign a contract extension to do one more extra year on Santa Barbara. Thankfully, unlike some soap opera actors, Wright was able to break free from the genre and move on to bigger things.
