When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.
I absolutely love the short film Lights Out. The way the tension builds combined with some awesome jump scares make it a perfect little horror film that doesn’t rely on any dialogue and somehow preys upon a primal fear that we’ve all experienced at some point: that there’s something lurking in the dark. In a move that I take to be a very good sign, Warner Bros. has actually produced a feature-length version of the short film from David F. Sandberg, and it even includes the original actor from the short! Has Hollywood finally clued in to the fact that there are amazing directors all over the internet waiting to bring some awesome content to the big screen? Between Lights Out and Dan Trachtenberg’s 10 Cloverfield Lane, it seems likely that this is the case. Anyway, this trailer for Lights Out is creepy as hell and loaded with jump scares. It’s going to be tough finding someone to come to see it with me.
Lights Out comes out July 22, 2016.
