Before They Were Stars (2-for-1 Special): Adam Sandler and Jeremy Piven on “Dog Police”

In 1990, there seemed to be a very bizarre and inexplicable trend involving the production of failed pilots for television shows featuring dogs as police officers. That year, we got Poochinski (which I wrote about on Cracked.com years ago), an infamous comedy starring Peter Boyle as a cop who is killed in the line of duty, but has his soul transferred into his pet bulldog. But that almost seems like a beacon of sanity next to the pilot for Dog Police, which features actual life-sized talking dogs as police officers! Thankfully, this pilot was never picked up and turned into a series, but it is notable for featuring the relatively unknown Adam Sandler and Jeremy Piven among its human cast members. This was produced only months before Sandler joined Saturday Night Live, so it’s interesting to think what might have been if Dog Police became a full-time series, thereby denying Sandler the opportunity to join SNL. Would it be worth experiencing Dog Police if we could live in a world without Jack and Jill and Grown-Ups?
