We’re not huge on memes here in the Back Row, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed was the Sad Keanu meme, which seems to be winding down as far as its popularity goes, being replaced by Prancing Michael Cera and the like. But Sad Keanu was different from most memes, because while it was undeniably mocking the goofy and maudlin photos of Keanu Reeves that kept surfacing, people were also trying to cheer Keanu up, even going so far as to organize a “Cheer Up Keanu” Day. It’s kinda sweet, in a way. The internet can make a mockery out of anyone and anything, but when it came to Keanu, sitting on that bench, eating whatever the heck it was that he ate, looking forlorn, the internet responded with a hearty pat on the back, a cry of “Cheer up, Keanu!” and a million and a half photoshopped pictures. These two are more recent. The cupcake one was taken on Keanu’s birthday, when he opted to celebrate alone outside a warehouse. I really like the “No Loitering” photo too.
