Boardwalk Empire Gets A Second Season After Only One Episode

That’s right, after only a single episode, HBO has decided to renew Boardwalk Empire for a second season. Entertainment Weekly (and, well, every other entertainment news source) is reporting that the pilot for the new Martin Scorsese-helmed, Steve Buscemi-starring series pulled in the highest viewer ratings of any premiere in the past six years, since the premiere of Deadwood. HBO execs, quick to recognize that they have a hit on their hands, promptly gave the show a second season, and that sits just fine with me. Boardwalk Empire‘s pilot episode is an incredible piece of television, and I suspect the show will only get better from here.

Interestingly, this is the second time in recent days that a new television show has gotten signed on for a second season even before the first season has really gotten underway – the first being AMC’s The Walking Dead. With more of these two new and awesome shows guaranteed for two years to come, I am one happy dude. And I highly recommend checking out the pilot to Boardwalk Empire when you get a chance. You won’t regret it!
