R.I.P. Mark Dailey (1953-2010)

Sadly, one of the most iconic voices of my childhood is gone as long-time newscaster and voice-over man Mark Dailey has just passed away of lung cancer at the age of 57 after a 30-year career with CityTV. Like many film geeks in my age bracket, I got a lot of my cinema education from watching CityTV’s Great Movies and am nostalgic for the days when I would stay up until 4 AM watching terrible action movies and raunchy eighties comedies. I always enjoyed hearing Mr. Dailey’s one-of-a-kind voice introduce the films and, best of all, he would not hesistate to mention if the films sucked, delivering such classic lines as: “And now CityTV presents Bolero starring Bo Derek. Viewer discretion is advised as some scenes contain nudity, coarse language… and bad acting!”.

“This is CityTV… everywhere!” R.I.P. You will be missed.
