Two awesome zoetropes from famous animation studios

For those of you who don’t know, a zoetrope is a slotted barrel with a sequence of pictures on the inside. When the barrel is spun, one can look through the slots and see the pictures become animated. Both Pixar studios and Studio Ghibli have created three-dimensional zoetropes that use strobe lights to create the animated effect. In the video above you can see Pixar members explaining the concept of the zoetrope and exhibiting the Toy Story-themed zoetrope that resides in the Pixar offices. In the clip below you can see the Studio Ghibli zoetrope at the Studio Ghibli museum.
