Runstedler recently sent me this trailer for Area 51, the new movie from Oren Peli, the writer/director behind the first Paranormal Activity movie. Looks like Oren is back to his handheld camera tricks again with this story about three students who break into Area 51 for no particular reason and are…uh…well, I’m guessing they’re attacked by something, but really all we know is that once they’re inside, an alarm goes off and they have to run through a tunnel. This preview doesn’t really give anything away, which I suppose is a good thing, but I’d at least like to know what threat they encounter. Obviously it will have something to do with aliens, but the “based on a true story” tag doesn’t do it any favours, considering we don’t even get the briefest flash of anything supernatural. I’ll reserve judgement until I see more.
Area 51 comes out October of 2011.
