It’s very rare to come across footage of a future celebrity from before they even got their first acting job, but here is an audition tape from 1993 featuring a young aspiring nine-year old actress named Scarlett Johansson. In an ironic tie-in to today’s birthday boy, Scarlett’s debut role would be in Rob Reiner’s infamous 1994 comedy, North, a film which angered Roger Ebert so much that he literally wrote “I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie” in his review. I’ve never seen North, so I’m not sure if this an audition tape for that film, but the dialogue Scarlett is reading does sound awfully familiar, so I’m wondering if she was trying out for a role that she didn’t get. Anyway, she would also wind up getting the role of the lead character’s sister in Home Alone 3 and you can see her at the 0:59 mark of the trailer.
