What Do “Hobo with a Shotgun” and “The Raccoons” Have in Common?

Well, in case you weren’t aware of this yet, the much-anticipated Hobo with a Shotgun is now playing in Canadian theaters everywhere. Being that this is one of our own creations, Hobo with a Shotgun has gotten a Canadian release nearly two full months before it’s set to come out in the United States. Believe it or not, it has thus far received 16 positive reviews and currently holds a 100 % approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes! Every critic who’s seen it agrees that it successfully achieves exactly what it sets out to do. I have watched it myself and greatly concur with their opinions and I will talk about it in more detail on our next Shouts From the Back Row podcast. However, one thing I felt compelled to mention right away is that Hobo with a Shotgun elevates itself to a whole new level of awesome with its choice of music to be played over the end credits. Recognize this song?

If you’re in my age bracket, chances are that you remember a Canadian animated TV series from the eighties called The Raccoons. The show was a huge part of my childhood, and the preceding song, “Run With Us”, was always played at the end of every episode. Even though the difference between these two enterprises couldn’t be any greater, Hobo with a Shotgun stays true to its Canadian roots by bringing this song back out of mothballs. I have no idea WHY the filmmakers chose this particular song, but I ain’t complaining! However, if they really wanted to close off the film with a theme song from an old Canadian TV show, this selection might have actually been more appropriate.
