Before They Were Stars: Bob Barker’s Television Debut on “Truth or Consequences”

Since I did a “Before They Were Stars” feature on Drew Carey yesterday, I figured I’d also do one for his legendary predecessor, Bob Barker. Of course, I’m sure many people believe that Bob Barker was hosting The Price Was Right way back when the television was still a telephonoscope and that the first words in the history of recorded sound were: “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered”. However, Bob actually got his start on TV in 1956 when he was named host of the long-running game show, Truth or Consequences, a position he held for the next 19 years. This rare footage is his very first TV appearance and he’s introduced as having “one of brightest futures in television”. Yeah, I guess 51 consecutive years is a pretty bright future!
