The first full-length, official, non-teaser-y trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes has been released, and y’know, I’m actually getting kind of intrigued by this movie. It’s cast features some pretty stellar actors like Brian Cox and John Lithgow, and the movie is seeming more and more like it’s going to turn out to be a solid sci-fi thriller. I’m not going to get too excited over it just yet, as it has the potential to bomb pretty spectacularly (the last Planet of the Apes movie that I really enjoyed was made in…1970), but it also had the potential to be surprisingly awesome. I almost wish they hadn’t tried to tie it into the Planet of the Apes mythos, because this movie could have rocked as a standalone story.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is being released August 5, 2011.
