Before They Were Stars: Halle Berry in the 1986 Miss USA Pageant

Before becoming an actress, Halle Berry competed in numerous beauty pageants and her biggest success came as “Miss Ohio” in the 1986 Miss USA pageant, where she managed to place first runner-up. At the 5:33 mark of this clip, she is interviewed by Bob Barker, and while her giant 1980s poofy hair is a riot, she does come across as way more eloquent and intelligent than most of the girls in this pageant. She says that her goal is to become an entertainer and I think it’s safe to say that she achieved that. In the end, Halle got the last laugh as she won an Academy Award, while the greatest success of the Miss USA winner, Christy Fichtner, was appearing on the reality show, Who Wants to Marry My Dad?.
