The First Trailer For The Hunger Games Has Failed To Make Me Hungry

I still haven’t read The Hunger Games, but the book comes very highly recommended and therefore I’m also interested in the upcoming movie adaptation. But now we have a (very short) teaser for the film and…and…well, I’m just not all that impressed. I mean, obviously they’re not showing us much here, but my first thought upon watching this was “This feels a lot like Battle Royale“. It’s not a bad thing – there are far worse movies to be compared to than Battle Royale – but I’m such a fan of that film that I wonder if The Hunger Games stands a chance of competing with it. Plus, that funny little X-Files music sting at the end of the trailer is a bit much. Still, I’m looking forward to seeing more. Here’s a plot summary:

Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss, a 16-year-old living in the post-apocalyptic country of Panem. Every year, one boy and one girl are chosen from each of Panem’s 12 districts to fight each other to their death.

The Hunger Games comes out March 23, 2012.
