I stand by my statement on our recent podcast about sport movies that Warren Miller is the greatest sports documentary filmmaker of all time. Over the course of his career, spanning over 50 years, he has documented the evolution of downhill snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding, using breathtaking photography, witty narration and damn good music to exhibit only the best side of winter sports. His movies are informative and fun, even for people who don’t like skiing, and between the years of 1949 and 2003, he put out a new film almost every year! He retired in 2004, though his company Warren Miller Entertainment, now overseen by his son Kurt, continues to make movies without Warren’s involvement. Warren Miller turns 87 today.
